Building 72, Playhouse

The 24th Infantry Regimental Theater was built in 1933 as the theater for black Soldiers of Fort Benning – primarily the 24th Infantry Regiment.  It also served as the unit chapel from 1933 – 1941, which had previously been housed elsewhere.  The building was built from modified standard plans used by theaters of several other installations.  The plans were modified only to design the front windows to match the arched cuartel windows across the street.  This building is the oldest theater building on Fort Benning.  It is memorialized for WWII Medal of Honor awardee, COL Robert B. Nett.
