"21st Century Maneuver "


Command Sergeant Major Hardy and I invite you to Fort Benning and Columbus Georgia, for our Inaugural Maneuver Conference.

This will mark the first of many annual Maneuver Conferences. This conference will be designed to showcase the unity of the Maneuver Force, while focusing on issues affecting not only the combined force but the Infantry, Armor, and Cavalry communities, as well as the entire force. We will leverage the strength of our diverse forum (active, guard, reserve, civilian, contractor, retired military, special operations, joint, and multinational) to address current and future issues affecting the maneuver force regardless of functional area, location, or deployed status.

This year's Conference theme is “21st Century Maneuver " and begins with our keynote speaker. This will be followed by Corps, 2 Infantry Division and 1st Army presentations on current best practices for Live, Virtual, Constructive, and Gaming at the Brigade, Battalion, Company and below and a two hour panel/audience discussion on initiatives and emerging technology. There will be Breakout Groups to address gates and the right L,V,C,G mix for weapons proficiency, maneuver and theater rehearsal. While ensuring throughout that we solicit your thoughts, experience, and valued input to influence the future Army and Maneuver Force solutions.

On the evening of September 13, we will conduct the Doughboy and Gold Medallion Dinner and Social at the Columbus River Mill. This combined event is anticipated to be an exciting forum, providing some of our most cherished awards to a select group of very deserving Americans.

MEMORANDUM of INSTRUCTION

SUBJECT: 2011 Maneuver Conference “Virtual” Attendance Procedures

1. Purpose. To outline effective operating procedures for the 2011 Maneuver Conference “virtual” attendees enabling maximum participation and user satisfaction using Defense Connect Online (DCO), 13-15 September 2011 at the Columbus Trade and Convention Center, Columbus, Georgia.

2. All seminar virtual attendees must adhere to the procedures outlined in this memorandum to facilitate the effective collaborative transfer of information presented in unclassified mediums for the duration of the Maneuver Conference.

3. ALL virtual attendees must have an active account with Defense Connect Online in order to view seminar briefings in real-time. A short tutorial for users without existing DCO accounts can be found at https://www.us.army.mil/suite/doc/27296042 (AKO Login Required).

4. Maneuver Conference DCO Operating Procedures:

    a. Users must logon with DCO account credentials. “GUEST” logins WILL NOT be accepted by the Room Administrator.

    b. Video and microphone functions inside the DCO room will be disabled by the room administrator. All user interfaces will be limited to the chat function. Chat comments MUST be limited to questions regarding seminar subject material or to report technical difficulty. The sheer number of virtual attendees will not allow for personal chat between users while monitoring the seminar presentations.

    c. Questions are welcomed and encouraged during scheduled seminar topics of discussion. Queries through the chat function must include the user’s NAME, RANK, UNIT, LOCATION and email address to ensure effective answers are provided.

5. DCO Brief Schedule will be hosted from 0800-1630 (Eastern Standard Time) using the following NIPR DCO link https://connect.dco.dod.mil/r21997122. Simply click on the link, and logon using your DCO credentials.

Directions from Atlanta
  • Take I-85 South from Atlanta, Georgia
  • Take I-185 South to Columbus
  • Take Exit 10 (J. R. Allen Parkway) off of I-185 South. The sign at Exit 10 says: “To Phenix City and Montgomery, AL”
  • Take Exit 1 off of J. R. Allen Parkway; this is the Downtown/2nd Avenue Exit
  • Stay on 2nd Avenue until you come to 8th Street; turn right onto 8th Street and continue until you come to the Trade Center
  • The parking garage will be to your left and the building to your right. The Columbus Marriott is directly across the street.
Directions from Macon
  • Take Hwy 80 West off of I-475 at Macon
  • Stay on Hwy 80 West thru Roberta, Talbotton, Geneva and Upatoi to Columbus
  • Stay on Hwy 80 into the Columbus area. It will become a bypass called the J. R. Allen Parkway
  • Take Exit 1 off of J. R. Allen Parkway (Hwy 80); this is the Downtown/2nd Avenue Exit
  • Stay on 2nd Avenue until you come to 8th Street; turn right onto 8th Street and continue until you come to the Trade Center
  • The parking garage will be on your left and the building to your right. The Columbus Marriott is across the street.
Directions from Albany
  • Take Hwy 82 (South Georgia Parkway) West from Albany to Dawson
  • Take Hwy 55 (straight thru Dawson) North to Richland
  • At Richland (continue straight thru Richland) take Hwy 280 North to Columbus
  • Stay on Hwy 280 (Victory Drive) thru Ft. Benning area into Columbus
  • Stay on Victory Drive (Hwy 280) until it intersects with Veterans Parkway (Hwy 27 North) (Civic Center will be on the left); turn right onto Veterans Parkway
  • Continue on Veterans Parkway until you come to 8th Street; turn left onto 8th Street and continue until you come to the Trade Center
  • The parking garage will be to your left and the building to your right. The Columbus Marriott is directly across the street.
Directions from Eufala, AL
  • When you come into the Phenix City area Hwy 431 joins Hwy 80 and runs together; when these roads separate take Hwy 280 into Columbus crossing on the Oglethorpe Bridge; Hwy 280 (Victory Drive) intersects with Veterans Parkway (Hwy 27 North) at the Civic Center (which is on the right); take a left off of Victory Drive (Hwy 80) onto Veterans Parkway (Hwy 27 North)
  • Stay on Veterans Parkway until you come to 8th Street; turn left onto 8th Street and continue until you come to the Trade Center
  • The parking garage will be to your left and the building to your right. The Columbus Marriott is directly across the street.
