Course Description

 

The M1A1 Master Gunner Course trains Tank NCOs and SNCOs in advanced gunnery methodology, turret weapons systems maintenance and gunnery training management. These acquired skills and knowledge will allow him to function as the unit's master of gunnery, the tank commander's mentor and the commander's gunnery technical adviser.

 

PREREQUISITES/ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS

 

Possess the rank of Sgt to GySgt.
Must volunteer for the course.
Must have at least 6 Months experience as a Tank Commander.
Must be certified by the Battalion Commander (BMG) that the Marine has passed the Vehicle Commander's GST as stated verbatim in FM 3-20.21 within three months or 90 days prior to attending the M1A1 Abrams Master Gunner Course.
Must have qualified as an M1A1 Vehicle commander on Gun Table VI within the previous 12 months.

Required documents for in-processing:
GST score sheet, valid within the last 90 days prior to start of class signed by the Battalion Master Gunner.
Any waiver request signed by Master Gunner Commandant only.
DTS orders.
Pre-execution Checklist (TASS Checklist link below).
IA MarineNet Certificate or CYBERM0000 Certificate.

 

Reporting/Detachment

 

All students are required to bring three copies of their orders before reporting and ensure all line of accounting information is annotated. Students must also ensure a copy is furnished to the Marine Corps Detachment representative during the in-brief process. Please ensure all receipts for lodging while attending the course are retained for voucher purposes. Travelers who are scheduled to be TDY for more than 45 consecutive are recommended to initiate scheduled partial payments through the Defense Travel System. Payments are automatically computed and scheduled for payment in 30-day increments.

Students must ensure they receive a detaching endorsement from the Marine Corps Detachment before reporting to their next follow on unit.

*Reservist - It is the members responsibility to ensure they are activated and transferred before reporting. A copy of MROWs and all modifications will be furnished to the Marine Corps Detachment representative during the in-brief process. "

Billeting

 

Students are billeted in Olson Hall (BOQ/BEQ), subject to availability. Cost is $36-40 a day. Olson Hall is NOT within walking distance; students will require transportation to and from training at the cost of their parent command.
