Course Description

Bradley Master Gunner School is a 12 Week (59 training day) course which utilizes collaborative instruction and experiential learning strategies to train select noncommissioned officers on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle's employment capabilities, weapon system maintenance, and gunnery training strategies.

MAINTENANCE PHASE - focuses on the BFV A3/A4 capabilities, turret component operations, and battlefield applications. Students will learn unit level maintenance of the M242 Automatic Chain Gun, the M240C Machine Gun, and how to maintain unit gun cards. They become subject matter experts on the BFV Optics capabilities, Turret Components functions, and Fire Control Modes of Operation. Classes Include:

  • M2A3 System Upgrades and Modernization (SUM)
  • Commanders Tactical Display (CTD)
  • Improved Bradley Acquisition Subsystem (IBAS)
  • Commanders Independent Viewer (CIV)
  • Sustainment and Diagnostics (S&D)
  • Turret Controls and Functions (TC&F)
  • Fire Control System
  • M2A4 System Upgrades and Modernization (SUM)
  • M240C Services Application
  • 25mm Services Application
  • Armament Maintenance Procedures

GUNNERY PHASE - focuses on the strategies behind the creation of a unit training calendar that will increase lethality at the troop and squadron levels. Students will learn ammunition characteristics, range safety, training aid capabilities, and range operations. They become subject matter experts on BFV weapon employment, the direct fire engagement process, gunnery training strategies, and crew/collective qualifications standards. Classes Include:

Course Outcomes - Master Gunners will be able to:

  • Conduct unit level maintenance and services on the M242 and M240C weapon systems; establishing an effective maintenance program for BFV weapon systems and related components.
  • Perform troubleshooting procedures utilizing the embedded Vehicle Diagnostics Maintenance System.
  • Train BFV Crews to maximize the efficiency of the fire control system and other specialized hardware to rapidly locate, engage and destroy targets on the battlefield.
  • Advise Commanders on BFV ammunition capabilities and limitations, allowing Commanders to effectively employ the BFV platform.
  • Build crew and collective gunnery scenarios that meet all doctrinal requirements and qualification standards.
  • Utilize Commander's guidance to develop a unit level training plan focused on gunnery qualifications and increased lethality.
