Suicide Prevention

Suicide prevention is everyone's responsibility. Therefore we must work together to support a Healthy Force, using a comprehensive holistic approach to improve the physical, spiritual, and emotional health of our Soldiers, their families, and Department of Army Civilians. Fort Benning has a responsibility to our Soldiers, Family members, and Civilians to create an environment free from the stigma associated with seeking help and to call attention to the devastating effects of suicide on individuals, families, units, and communities.

Vision:

A Force equipped with the skills and resources needed to recognize and intervene when an individual shows warning signs of suicide or are involved in high-risk behavior.

Mission Statement:

Reduce suicidal behaviors through awareness and education and to dispel the myths and stigma surrounding seeking help for difficult adult life issues. Encourage Soldiers to seek help for treatable behavioral health problems such as depression, alcohol and drug abuse, and relationship issues. Develop a trained Force at all levels capable of suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. Develop a holistic approach to suicide prevention which encompasses the physical, emotion, social, family, and spiritual dimensions of health. Provide the Force at Fort Benning with increased awareness education, training, support services, protective factors, open communication, and concern between Leaders and Soldiers, their Families and DA Civilians.
