Q: I’m a Military Retiree and a subcontractor for a project on post. Can I use the SELF SCAN lanes and do the same thing with my workers’ IDs?
A: No, Army Regulations state when a Military Retiree or other Trusted Traveler is in the performance of contract work their “status” changes. Your Trusted Traveler status is not valid while performing that work and all your passengers would require a pass. Check with your Prime Contractor or Contract COR, or the Contractor Badge Office (Bldg. 1697) on the process to badge yourself and your workers.
Q: I already have an AIE Card/Pass, do I still need to go back to the Visitor Control Center?
A: No, if your AIE Card/Pass is not expired you may go directly to the ACP.
Q: I’m coming for a Graduation; do I have to stop at the Visitor Control Center if I was approved for a pass using my soldiers Graduation Special Event/QR Code?
A: Follow the SMS text message response you received for your Pass Approval. Some approvals will direct you to a specific ACP (Gate) and you will show your approval and ID/DL to the Guard.
Q: I was approved using the online process, but my other passenger received “Technical Error, cancelled” what do we do?
A: At times states will respond slowly and time out in our system. If you are both going to the same event, go to the ACP directed in the SMS text Approval. The Guard at the ACP will scan your ID and process you in the lane.
Q: What if my dependent is under 18 but has a friend over 18 drive them?
A: Only travelers 18 and older are required to provide a DoD ID or ID/Pass described above to access post. In this instance, your daughter can present her DoD ID along with the driver’s Real ID and access post.
Q: What is a Real ID?
A: Please visit: https://dds.georgia.gov/georgia-licenseid/general-license-topics/real-id or the issuing state’s Real ID webpage to gain information and verify if the DL/ID is Real ID compliant.
Q: Can my family from out of town still visit?
A: Of course! If they do not have a DoD ID, you can stop at the Contractor Badge Office (Bldg. 1697-Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9am to 4 pm, No appointment needed) and coordinate to get their pass, if US Citizens, they can use our online Pre-Registration and request a pass before ever leaving home or they can stop at any open Visitor Control Center to obtain a visitor pass.
Q: If I don’t have a DoD ID, can I access post with just my license?
A: Yes, you will need to have a valid reason for your visit. If a US Citizen, you can use our online Pre-Registration process or stop at any open Visitor Control Center to obtain a pass to access the installation.
Q: Will this effect ( contractors, veterans, retiree spouses, etc.)?
A: Yes, any traveler wishing to access post will be required to show a DoD ID, be approved through our online Pre-Registration, directed to a specific ACP and show the ID/DL they used for the process or go to any open Visitor Control Center and process for a pass. Some online Pre-registration approvals will direct you to a Visitor Control Center to retrieve your pass through the kiosk. You must bring the ID/DL used for the online pass request.
Q: If I have a CAC or Family Member ID card already, can I still use it to get on Fort Benning?
A: Yes, DoD ID cards can still be registered utilizing the “in lane” registration process. All new DoD CAC/Family Member ID/Retired ID cards are automatically registered when initially scanned in lane. When accessing Fort Benning these cards may use any lane and are authorized for use in the lanes marked “CAC-MIL ID ONLY”.
Q: If I have a CAC and a Retiree ID card do I have to register both?
A: No, once you are registered in the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) system both of your cards will work at the ACPs. If any issues the Visitor Control Center can assist in troubleshooting the card.
Q: Do I need a pin number for my ID card?
A: No, only CAC cardholders will need to know their selected pin number. During elevated threats the Installation may raise the Force Protection Condition (FPCON) level and the AIE system shall limit access to only key and essential personnel.
Q: How long does it take to register a DoD ID in the AIE system?
A: In lane, for the first time, 3-5 seconds.
Q: Will my registration expire?
A: Yes, your registration will expire at the same time as your DoD ID card expires. You will have to re-register in the AIE system. This is normally accomplished the next time you scan in lane using your new DoD ID card.
Q: My DoD ID expired and I cannot get an appointment, what do I do?
A: Most expired IDs will be handled by the Guards in lane. You may also stop at the Lindsey Creek Visitor Control Center (open 24 hours). You will be verified in the system and issued a temporary extension card to present with your ID. This extension will be good until 30 June 2021 or your scheduled appointment.
Q: Will I be able escort people on post with my DoD ID?
A: Yes, by using the Trusted Traveler Program escort privileges if you are a Trusted Traveler.
Q: What is a MIL ID or CAC Card?
A: Military ID, Spouse ID or Retiree ID cards. CAC cards are generally the card issued to Soldiers and Department of the Army Civilians as ID and they look like the example below.
Q: What is an AIE Card?
A: It is an Automated Installation Entry card that is issued for up to one year for personnel that work on post but do not get issued a CAC card or MIL ID. It looks like the picture below.
Q: Are Visitors allowed “escorted” access on Fort Benning?
A: Visitors with a Authorized Trusted Traveler are considered escorted and allowed access without a pass requirement. The Trusted Traveler must be with the visitor at all times while on the installation.
Q: Are Visitors allowed “unescorted access” on Fort Benning?
A: Visitors may apply for unescorted access in person at any Visitor Control Center, using the Pass Request Online process and must pass the Army Adjudication Standards. Once favorably processed a visitors pass may be issued. Please see Pass Request Information for more details.
Q: Is there an online process to request a pass?
A: Yes, there is a “Contractor”, “MACH-VA”, “Recreation”, “Graduation”, “Visiting Guest”, “Other” button under the reason for visit in the online link. Additionally some Government Employee Sponsor (GES) have a link for specific contracts that will speed the process for a Contractor Badge (AIE Card). Online pass requests are available using this link here or using the Special Event link provided by your GES or soldier. Everyone 18 years or older will need a pass and ONLY U.S. Citizens may use this process. (Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari browser recommended). Q: Can I come for Graduation, how do I get a pass?
A: Congratulations on your soldier’s accomplishment! Graduations are open to the public with caveats. Please see your soldier’s unit for specific requirements. Many of these events have a specific online pass process. Please see your soldier’s unit Facebook page or consult your soldier’s specific unit for more information.
Q: I have a special needs family member with services that are provided from an off post organization. Are they allowed on post?
A: Yes. Many therapists and other specialized providers have already been processed for a pass/card. If your provider has not, they may use the online pass request link (U.S. Citizens only) and select "Other" as reason for visit. Once the pass has been processed they will be able to pick up their pass at the Visitor Control Center kiosk. The pass pick up should take less than 3 minutes. They may use this process for each visit or you may email here and request a long term pass. The initial online pass request must be completed favorably prior to requesting the long term pass. All long term pass request required a Government Employee Sponsor (GES) and a favorable background check.
Q: I have a babysitter that takes care of my children so I can work. Will they be able to get a pass?
A: Yes. Babysitters, Nanny or Au Pairs are still able to obtain a visitor pass. They may use the online pass request link (U.S. Citizens only) and select "Other" as reason for visit. Once the pass has been processed they will be able to pick up their pass at the Visitor Control Center kiosk. The pass pick up should take less than 3 minutes. Q: My wife is pregnant and family/friends were planning to stay with us to help care for her and assist with our children. Can they get a long term pass?
A: Yes. Residents with guests over 30 days are required to register their guest with housing IAW the Fort Benning Family Communities (FBFC) Resident Responsibility Guide. IAW the guide Residents are allowed to have non-immediate family and unrelated guests in their homes for up to 30 consecutive days. Any guest staying longer than thirty days must have written permission from housing.
Q: I have an Agent Card issued by the ID Section, can I use it to get on the installation?
A: The Lindsey Creek Visitor Control Center can assist you in obtaining a pass You will need to bring your Agent Card and your valid DL/ID when requesting the pass. Q: I am a contractor and have a Military Retiree ID. Why am being sent to the Visitor Center and not allowed to escort my coworkers?
A: IAW AR 190-13 Military Retirees may not use their MIL ID for contract work. You will need to obtain a Contract Badge (AIE Card) for your contractor job.
Q: I work as a contractor and my pass is only good for 5 days at a time, can I get a longer pass ?
A: Yes, you will need to coordinate with the Government Employee Sponsor (GES) for the contract.
