Armor Basic Officer Leader Course (ABOLC)


Reporting

Your orders will indicate when to report to ABOLC. If early reporting is not authorized (if on orders), do not report early. Active Duty and National Guard/Reserve Officers are not entitled to pay or benefits if not authorized to report early. Upon arrival at Fort Benning, report to K Troop, 2d Squadron, 16TH Cavalry, 199TH Infantry BDE, Building #5116, 13TH Armored Regiment Road, Fort Benning, GA, during duty hours, Phone number 706-626-6297. Weekends and after duty hours, call 199th BDE staff duty at 706-545-1042. ABOLC is a PCS move for active duty only NG are TDY, therefore your family should either be with you, or Enroute after your arrival.

If authorized on your orders, reporting a few days early to the ABOLC is advantageous for the following reasons:

  1. House/Apartment Hunting
  2. Finance. (Bldg. 6122, Soldier Plaza)
  3. Owned Weapons Registration.
  4. I.D. Card (TRICARE and DEERS)--Medical and Dental coverage.

Arriving early allows you more time to acquaint yourself with Fort Benning and the surrounding communities and to take care of any personal necessities, i.e. uniforms, unpacking, etc. The chain of command strongly encourages you to report no later than 0800 hours on your reporting day. Day 0 is utilized for in-processing.

When reporting for your first day of ABOLC, ensure that the following guidelines are met prior to introductions:

  1. Your hair style will be within Army Regulation 670-1
  2. Your uniform is clean; free from tears, or unserviceable fading, and that your boots are clean and serviceable. DO NOT report in civilian attire.
  3. Remember that your report day is the first impression that the Squadron will have for you, and that first impressions are expressed to your Troop Commander if an inquiry is made.
  4. Bring all paperwork that your commissioning source sent with you, as well as any Orders and Amendments that the Army may have sent to you.
  5. You will be reporting to the 2-16 CAV Civilian Training Technician on the second floor of Zussman Hall, Building 5116, who can be contacted prior to your report date for confirmation of documentation requirements at 706-626-6302.

If you think you will report late, immediately Notify the SDO at 706-626-8322, K Troop Commander (706-626-6300 office or cell 706-329-9103) or Training Specialist at (706-626-6302).

National Guard Officers: While traveling to and from ABOLC you are on TDY orders and therefore must follow the rules and regulations outlined in the Joint Travel Regulation. More specifically, when traveling to the start of ABOLC, or when traveling back to your home station at the conclusion of ABOLC, you are authorized to travel no more than 400 miles on your first day of travel and 350 miles on all subsequent days (If traveling by car). The mileage rules do not apply if flying to or from ABOLC. All above information can be found in the Joint Travel Regulation, page 184, Authorized Travel Time. NG need to be authorize rental car or drive on their orders due to traveling one way about 13 miles from lodging to ABOLC.


Inprocessing

Bring the Following:

  1. Military orders issued by your commissioning source, DD Form 1610 or Format 400 (TDY orders). Bring 20 copies of each.
  2. Documents specific top each commissioning source:
    1. For prior service ROTC: copy of any prior DD 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, NG and Reserve) or DD 220
      1. 1 copy of any prior NG 22 (Report of Separation)
      2. 1 copy of any prior NG 23 (Retirement Points Worksheet)
      3. 1 copy of any prior Enlistment Contracts (DD Form 4/1, 4/2 and 4/3)
      4. 1 copy of your SMP contracts (NGB 594 or 4824 reserve) and 1 copy of your ROTC contract (597). All ADT orders putting you on active duty why you were in the NG
    2. OCS graduates: medical records, dental records, and DA 31
    3. Reserve: DD 5016, DA 71(Oath of office) active if gold bar recruiter and Advance camp and orders with amendments
    4. *NG bring 20 copies of your orders and 10 copy of your NGB 337and DA 71 (NG Oath of office). Ensure that you bring a copy of your marriage, child's birth certificate for all dependent children.
    5. **Single NG students that have rent obligations or mortgage agreements need to bring the lease or mortgage agreement to receive BAH at the rate that the property is located in. Three proof of payments are required for lease only.
  3. Documents common to all Officers and Commissioning Sources (everyone must have them):
    1. 5 copies of DA Form 31 (Request and Authority for Leave), issued from your commissioning source [Except for NG students due to being on TDY orders].
    2. 10 copies of DA Form 71 (Oath of Office), issued from your commissioning source [Except NG which is NGB 337 and DA 71].
    3. Health and medical records. All Medical, Dental, Audiology, and Optometry records will be turned into the Harmony Church TMC during in-processing. If mailing these documents, mail to: Squadron Training Specialist, 2nd Squadron, 16TH Cavalry, 316 Cavalry BDE Brigade, Bldg 5144, 13th Armored Regiment Road, Fort Benning, GA 31905.
    4. Copy of birth certificate for all dependent children if they ARE NOT enrolled in Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS).
    5. Copy of your marriage certificate if spouse is NOT enrolled in DEERS. This is used to verify your marital status and assist in their enrollment into DEERS.
    6. Vehicle Insurance Company, Vehicle Title, and policy numbers.
    7. Name of your bank, address of your bank, and bank account numbers. Form 1199-A, provided on the web, (Direct Deposit) from financial institution and at least one personal check to be voided. The voided check will be used to ensure you receive military pay. Officers must arrive with a checking account. Some options include: USAA, Columbus Bank & Trust (706) 649-4900, and Wells Fargo Bank (706)685-7100.
    8. If married, an email account for your spouse. You may sponsor an AKO account for your spouse through Army Knowledge Online.
    9. Record of immunization. Required for all family members wishing access to child care/youth services at Fort Benning.
    10. Personal Computer - The Chain of Command strongly encourages each student to bring a personal (desktop or laptop) computer to ABOLC. You will complete homework and will require the use of a computer and printer. The course will issue you a laptop computer for use during the course but this is for military purposes only and is subject to confiscation if unauthorized programs are added or improper material is viewed or accessed with the issued computer.
    11. Personal Firearms – You must register all firearms with the Fort Benning Provost Marshall and with your troop commander during in processing. Do not enter installation with firearms until they are registered.
    12. Copy of your marriage certificate and child's birth certificate for all dependent children.

In-Processing Checklist

Squadron In-Processing Checklist: Complete these steps as soon as feasible.

  1. Your army email account is the Army’s primary means of communication.
  2. Obtain a local mailing address.
  3. Twenty (20) copies of orders, including all amendments, Endorsements, DD 1610's, DA71’s (10 copies).
  4. DA Form 31 (Leave form)
  5. Arrive with all required uniforms. The duty uniform is ACUs with patrol cap and the Armor School Patch. You are also required to have the Army Service Uniform or Pink and Green’s. (See uniform section).
  6. Begin on-line distance learning
  7. Complete AT Level 1 Certification prior to reporting and bring your certificate.
