Brigadier General Ribas was commissioned through the University of Miami Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1987. From 1987 thru 1998, he served in several operational assignments to include two company-level commands and key battalion-level staff positions with the 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry. In September 2006 after serving as both a plans officer and air operations officer with the 53rd IBCT, he was assigned as the Mobilization and Readiness Branch Chief within the State Joint Headquarters G3. In August of 2007 he assumed command of 2nd Battalion, 124th Infantry while concurrently serving as the State Partnership Program Coordinator for U.S. Southern Command. In 2010 he deployed the 2-124th IN in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following redeployment in November 2011 he was assigned as Executive Officer of the 53rd IBCT and served and the Chief of Staff of Task Force Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL in August 2012. In March of 2013 he was assigned as the Deputy Commander, and subsequently in January 2015 as the Commander of the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

Brigadier General Ribas concurrently serves as the Director of the Joint Staff - Florida National Guard, responsible for directing the activities of the Army and Air Joint Staff and the principle advisor to the Adjutant General on domestic operations. He oversees the readiness of Florida’s 12,000 National Guard personnel and when directed, serves as the state's Joint Task Force Commander and/or Dual Status Commander. During the Hurricane Irma response, he was nominated by the Governor and appointed by the Secretary of Defense to serve as the Dual Status Commander for hurricane response operations within Florida commanding over 10,000 Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine personnel.

Brigadier General Ribas is a veteran of two deployments to Iraq in 2003-2004 as the Executive Officer of the 1-124th IN and in 2010 as Commander of 2-124th IN.

Brigadier General Ribas’ numerous awards include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and V Device, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Florida Cross, Parachutist Badge, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold). He is also a Level III designated Joint Qualified Officer.

His education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Miami. He has a Master's Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College and is also a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Air War College.
