Command Sergeant Major Derrick C. Garner

Command Sergeant Major Garner is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana; and enlisted in the United States Army in January 1996 as an Infantryman. He completed Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, Georgia and has served in Light, Medium, and Airborne Infantry units. CSM Garner has also served in every leadership position in the Infantry from Team Leader; Scout Assistant Team Leader; Rifle Squad Leader; Weapons Squad Leader; Scout Team Leader; Ranger Instructor; Platoon Sergeant; First Sergeant; Operations Sergeant Major; Battalion Command Sergeant Major; and U.S. Army NCO Academy Commandant.

Over the last 24 years of service, CSM Garner's assignments include: Fire Team and Scout Assistant Team Leader, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Rifle and Weapons Squad Leader, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Rifle Squad Leader and Scout Team Leader, 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Senior Ranger Instructor/Writer 4th Ranger Training Battalion Fort Benning, Georgia; Rifle Platoon Sergeant, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment Fort Campbell, Kentucky; First Sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Troop and Long Range Surveillance Company (LRSC), 1st Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment Fort Bragg, North Carolina; First Sergeant, 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; and First Sergeant, Headquarters, and Headquarters Company, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. As a Command Sergeant Major, he has served as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major of the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment Fort Bliss, Texas; and Commandant, U.S. Army NCO Academy Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

CSM Garner's military training includes: Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC); Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course (BNCOC); Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course (ANCOC); United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) Class 66; Ranger School; Airborne School; Jumpmaster School; Sabalaski Air Assault School; John F. Kennedy Special Operations Survive, Escape, Resist, Evade (SERE-C) Course; Total Army Instructor Trainer Course; Tactics Certification Course; Master Breacher Course; Fast Rope Master Course; BN Pre-Command Course; BDE Pre-Command Course; and the Commandants Pre-Command Course.
