Family Member Performance Course

Purpose


Focuses on the underlying knowledge and mental skills required for self-awareness and self-regulation, which are necessary for a person to think critically and creatively

Course Description


The 12-hour (3 days) Family Member Performance Course is designed to target family members

Scope


The Family Member Performance Course combines instruction of Mental Skills Foundation, Building Co

  1. Six lessons of the performance enhancement model. Each lesson is a 2- to 3-hour block of instruction. The lessons are being taught by two performance enhancement specialists and each class consists of 5 to15 participants.
  2. The six mental skills taught are as follows:
    • Mental skills foundations: Learn about the nature of optimal performance and how to unlock it using mental skills and techniques.
    • Building Confidence: Learn about practical and effective thinking techniques that develop, sustain, and protect confidence in any situation.
    • Attention Control: Learn how to direct, sustain, and shift attention on demand for greater focus and mental agility.
    • Energy Management: Learn energy management techniques that produce composure under stress, sustain energy, and maximize recovery.
    • Goal Setting: Learn goal-setting principles to plan, execute, and persevere to achieve excellence.

Course Outcome


Course objective is to accelerate the development of key mental and emotional attributes of high-performing Family Team Member. These skills provide a mental edge that is key to “Be at your best, when it matters most.” This course provides an opportunity to broaden one’s understanding, and to learn the practical skills for developing and regulating mental and emotional attributes. More importantly, it is expected that the knowledge and skills gained by this course will influence a spouse's role as a spouse or parent, and provide one with unique skills that can be passed on to other Family Members.

Length


3 days (3 training days for a total of 24 academic hours)

Course Prerequisites


Course is open to all Spouses of the Soldiers, DA Civilians and contractors of Fort Benning. Students cannot miss more than two (2) hours of class. Students will be rescheduled for a later class to insure they do not miss necessary appointments.
