Instructor Writer Course (IWC)

Description

The Instructor Writer Course (IWC) is a 12-hour course that replaced the Instructional Design Basic Course (IDBC) in FY24. It serves as an alternative to the CFD-DC for instructors pursuing the Senior Army Instructor Badge (SAIB) in accordance with TRADOC Regulation 600-21. Graduates will understand how to properly revise a lesson plan in alignment with TRADOC instructional standards Note: IWC supports FDRP requirements but is not a substitute for the 80-hour CFD-DC qualification required for Training Developers.

The outcome of the course is that graduates will understand how to properly revise a lesson plan: fulfilling the guidance and requirements outlined in the most current version of TRADOC Regulation 600-21, Faculty Development and Recognition Program.

Please note: IWC is a 12-hour course that supports FDRP requirements and is not a substitute for the 80-hour CFD-DC qualification requirement for Training Developers.

Distributed Learning (DL) Blackboard LLC:

The IWC is offered in two formats: resident (in-person) and distributed learning (DL) via the Blackboard LLC platform. Students enrolled in the Blackboard version will complete the course entirely online through a secure learning environment. This format includes access to instructional materials, lesson plan revision templates, TRADOC Regulation 600-21 references, announcements, and certificate issuance. Participants will receive login credentials prior to the course start date. Regular engagement with Blackboard is required to complete course tasks, submit assignments, and access post-course documentation.
Note: Only select iterations of the IWC will be taught in-person during FY26. All other offerings will be conducted via Blackboard. Students should verify their enrollment format with their unit Schools NCO.
