Scout Leader Course (SLC)

Prerequisites


*Effective 011100 May 21, prerequisites for attendance, graduation requirements, all course material align with and adhere to current Army policies for ACFT implementation, record physical fitness data (APFT), and HT/WT requirements across all TRADOC courses will be enforced IAW AR 350-1 para 3–13.*

Active duty, National Guard, and Reserve Component Officers (O-1 thru O-3) and Non-Commissioned Officers (E-5P thru E-7) who are assigned to, or projected to serve in a Reconnaissance Billet. The course is open to individuals from the following Career Management Fields (11, 12, 13, 15, 19, 35, and 74). The course is also open to partner and allied nation service personnel.

Army/Marine/Air Force/Navy Equivalent:

  • Completed the Basic Officer Leadership Course Branch (BOLC-B) or service equivalent
  • Completed Maneuver Advanced Leaders Course (ALC) or service equivalent
  • Height & weight IAW AR 600-9 (physicals ARE NOT a requirement)
  • No temporary profiles
  • No duty limiting permanent profiles
  • Has no family and/or personal issues that will require early dismissal
  • Is in or is projected to a scout platoon para/lin # or appropriate position for other MOS's

Walk-Ons:

NCOs and Officers walking onto the course are not guaranteed a slot in the course. Those wishing to reserve a slot need to have their Battalion/Squadron or Brigade/Regiment Schools NCO/OIC contact Mr. Richard Eggers, the 316th Cavalry Brigade Training Officer. As the slot is not a guarantee, it is recommended that units/NCOs/Officers be prepared to return to their home station as soon as Day 1 in-processing is complete.

Waivers:

Scout Leader Course cadre do not handle the waivers process. Those requiring a waiver (Promotable Sergeants, E-5P, with ALC complete / CMFs outside the typical authorized / GT Scores less than 100) need to have their Battalion/Squadron or Brigade/Regiment Schools NCO/OIC contact Mr. Richard Eggers, the 316th Cavalry Brigade Training Officer, at 706-545-8668 or richard.w.eggers.civ@mail.mil.
