Range Operations

Mission


Plan and budget for the construction, modernization and sustainment of ranges and the training complex. Provide operations and coordination, scheduling and control of ranges, the training complex and airspace. Furnish target system and battlefield simulation support for MCOE and tenant units. Monitor the use of ranges and training areas. Execute the Integrated Training Area Management Program.

Range Operations Headquarters

  • Plan for the construction, modernization and sustainment of Ranges and the Training Complex.
  • Budget for organizational level operation and sustainment of ranges.
  • Provide personnel and pay services for employees.
  • Request, receive, store and issue range supplies.
  • Execute the Integrated Training Area Management Program.

Control Branch

  • Compile and promulgate safety requirements for all range firing.
  • Maintain and disseminate range capability information.
  • Coordinate and publish installation range and terrain schedules and range information bulletins.
  • Operate a range communications center.
  • Record and maintain range, terrain and airspace utilization records.
  • Provide advice and assistance in compliance with installation environmental protection policies.

Target Systems Branch

  • Maintain and operate targetry on remote target systems (RETS) and Commercial, off the Shelf (COTS) equipped ranges.
  • Maintain and operate target system and devices on BFV/tank ranges.
  • Provide portable target system and battlefield simulation services.
  • Provide Sustainment Level Maintenance for targetry and associated equipment.

Safety Service Branch

  • Identify and mark firing areas, dud areas, and restricted areas.
  • Initiate and coordinate dud destruction and removal.
  • Conduct range and terrain surveillance and report compliance with installation policies.
