Fort Benning Administrative Law assigns attorneys as Legal Advisors/Legal Reviewers for the following investigations:

  • Commander’s Inquiries: (Legal Advisor not required. Will be assigned if requested) (Legal Review required if Appointing Authority contemplates adverse action).
  • Preliminary Inquiry: (Legal Advisor not required. Will be assigned if requested) (Legal Review required if Appointing Authority contemplates adverse action).
  • 15-6 Investigations: (These are investigations appointed under AR 15-6, Ch. 5. Legal Advisor IS required). (Legal Review required)
  • Formal/Informal Line of Duty Investigation: (These are investigations appointed under AR 600-8-4. Legal Advisor IS required). (Legal Review required)

When requesting a Legal Advisor send the following information listed via email by Clicking here :

  • Investigating Officers Rank and Name:
  • Attached signed appointment orders:
  • Type of Investigation: (15-6, FLIPL, LOD)
  • Keywords “if applicable”: (SHARP, EO, IG, Trainee Abuse, Suicide, Death)
  • Date of Appointment:
  • Date Due:
  • IO’s contact number:
  • The subject of the email should read “Legal Advisor Request – [Type of Investigation, Keyword] – [Rank Last Name, First Name].


    • When requesting a legal review. the Investigating Officer will send his complete investigation to his assigned legal advisor. The legal advisor will conduct a cursory review of the investigation and forward to a separate attorney for legal review.
