The Close Combat Lethality Task Force (CCLTF) is one of the Department of War’s five joint Cross Functional Teams (CFTs) comprised of Office of the Secretary of War (OSW), United States Marine Corps (USMC), United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and United States Army (USA) stakeholders.



Mission Statement


The Close Combat Lethality Task Force (CCLTF) develops, evaluates, recommends, and monitors the implementation of comprehensive DOTMLPF-P solutions to enhance the lethality, resiliency, and combat effectiveness of joint U.S. squad-level close combat formations, ensuring overmatch against pacing threats.

  • Evaluate solutions across the DOTMLPF
  • Develop efficiencies through joint solutions to capability requirements
  • Integrate developmental and research efforts into a DoW community of practice
  • Accelerate promising service-level close combat initiatives
  • Prioritize analysis and investments to expedite fielding promising approaches

"I know I’m going to meet death; evacuation is impossible.” These words, spoken by Mykhalio, a soldier in Ukraine’s 80th Air Assault Brigade, relay the horror of casualty response and evacuation in large-scale combat. Walking wounded move alone to evacuation points. Frontline troops remain cutoff for days from medical care. Evacuation vehicles are easy targets and therefore never come.
